This event will be centred around informing the public that the British Heart Foundation use their donations to fund cruel animal experiments. Research by Cruelty Free International and Animal Free Research suggests that at least 115 million animals may be used in experiments worldwide each year. 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work. There are thousands of ingredients that have already been proved safe for use in household products, cosmetic products and others as well as an increasing number of alternative testing methods for new ingredients that don’t use animals and are more reliable. Yet across Europe, hundreds of animals, such as rats, mice, rabbits and guinea pigs, are used in toxicity (or “poison”) tests for chemicals used in household products. In these tests, chemicals are applied to or injected into animals’ skin or forced down their throats via a tube to check for side effects such as vomiting, tremors, organ failure, paralysis and even death. We want to put an end to this suffering by challenging the British Heart Foundation and encouraging consumers to buy ethical products, such as Superdrug own-brand products, Astonish, Original Source and many more brands.
