For years, the Oberlin Public Library has been hosting a chicken hatching event, where patrons can watch baby chick's hatch and grow. While this may seem innocent, these baby chicks are purchased from farms who sell their animals to be used for eggs and meat, and these chicks often get sent to farms or to slaughter when they are older and the vanity has worn off.
