Meetup: Ryan Shapiro on the History of Repression Against Animal Rights Activists

With good reason, animal abuse industries fear our movement. They stop at almost nothing to stop us, and this includes outrageously invoking the specter of national security. For over a hundred years, those who profit from torturing and killing animals have sought to mobilize the American national security state to silence animal activism. From the Espionage Act during World War I to the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act of 2006 to the FBI’s ongoing use of weapons of mass destruction investigations, animal abuse industries and their allies in government and law enforcement have long targeted our movement as a threat to the state. At this meetup, leading expert Ryan Shapiro will explore this history and how we can fight back.
