The elephants at the Los Angeles Zoo were removed and sent to the bleak Tulsa Zoo in May 2025, even despite calls from experts all over the world to send them to an elephant sanctuary instead. The city-owned zoo even ignored its own city council when it asked for better options to be explored. The zoo director Denise Verret claimed to be making the decision based on Billy and Tina's "best interests," but how can that be when sanctuary was never seriously looked into?
