Billy & Tina's ZOO PROTEST

The Los Angeles Zoo is not just an "animal holding facility," as the zoo's genius communications director once described it; it is also a botanical garden with trees from various parts of the world throughout the zoo. One of the trees is the acacia from Africa, which happens to be a primary food source for wild giraffes. But one place the tree is not present at the zoo is in the giraffe enclosure, where there are no plants of any type. According to Born Free USA, "Giraffes spend a large part of their day feeding on leaves and stems of trees and shrubs, and rumination is their dominant activity at night. As such, feeding is not just of nutritional importance to them but also behaviourally significant." As seen in the photo, the giraffes' tiny space is lifeless and as barren as a small horse corral.
