Billy & Tina's ZOO PROTEST

Next protest SUNDAY, Jan 25 from 10 to 12 noon!

On May 21, 2025 the city-owned Los Angeles Zoo announced it had moved its last two elephants, Billy and Tina, to Tulsa Zoo under cover of darkness. The transfer came after decades of protests and advocacy on behalf of Billy the lone and alone male who had been almost continuously held in solitary since his arrival as a four-year-old child in 1989. The public, elected officials, elephant experts, protesters, and the press had been asking that Billy be moved to a sanctuary for his own physical and mental health. More recently, calls for Tina's release were added after she was left without companions when her "herd" mates Jewel and Shaunzi were ordered unalived by the zoo.
