DESCRIPTION: PROTEST & OUTREACH TO STOP YORK UNIVERSITY’S PRIMATE RESEARCH
\n TTC York University subway station entrances at 120 Ian McDonald Blvd.
	\, Toronto\n Friday\, November 6th | 3 PM – 5 PM\n Signs\, banners\, leaf
lets\, and tablets to play investigation footage will be provided. We reco
mmend dressing warm to stay comfortable for outdoor temperatures. If possi
ble\, avoid clothing with unrelated logos or messaging so our campaign vis
uals remain clear and unified. Please follow organizers’ plans for the day
. Questions\, ideas\, and feedback are always welcome\, and we can discuss
them together at the end of the event. \nInvite your friends and share th
is event. The bigger our turnout\, the harder this issue is to ignore.\n W
HY WE'RE THERE\nNine rhesus macaques are currently being used in experimen
ts at York University. Some have reportedly spent more than 17 years insid
e the laboratory.\nAn undercover investigation by Last Chance for Animals
(LCA) documented disturbing conditions and procedures\, including water re
striction\, permanent restraint collars\, permanent head posts and chamber
implants in their skulls for brain access\, repeated invasive surgeries\,
prolonged social isolation and stereotypic behaviours associated with psy
chological distress. According to the investigation\, some macaques were o
bserved drinking their own urine amid water restriction\, while one\, Lies
l\, has suffered significant vision loss. Seven of the nine were reportedl
y housed alone.\nWe want the York 9 released so they can finally retire fr
om research. But this campaign is about more than nine macaques.\nOLD SCIE
NCE → NEW SCIENCE\nWe are also calling for a transition away from animal e
xperimentation and toward modern\, human-relevant New Approach Methodologi
es (NAMs).\nInstead of continuing invasive experiments on primates\, we wa
nt to see Canada invest in innovative non-animal science and educate the n
ext generation of researchers in methods that don't depend on harming anim
	als.\nLEARN MORE • WATCH THE INVESTIGATION • TAKE ACTION\n https://www.sav
