DESCRIPTION:Hello Fellow Animal Advocates\,\nWMARA is uniting with our fell
ow animal advocates in CT and PETA for their "Free the Animals Friday" thi
s year! Please join us on the busiest shopping day of the year to educate
folks about the horrors of the fur\, down\, wool\, and leather industry. T
he billions of animals tortured and killed each year for their fur or skin
	 desperately need our voice.\nWHEN: Friday\, November 27th\, 12-2\nWHERE:
	In front of Zeller Furs\, 977 Farmington St.\, West Hartford\, CT\nJoin us
for lunch afterwards at The Blue Elephant\, a great vegan-friendly restau
rant within walking distance! \nWe hope to have Vegan Santa Claus and Mrs.
Claus join us again!\n***Signs and literature will be available\, but fee
l free to bring your own signs.\n***Bundle up!\n***If interested in carpoo
ling\, either reply via email or text/call me at (413) 374-1921\n---------
-----------------\nOTHER WAYS TO TAKE ACTION:\n* Politely complain to loca
l businesses that carry real fur\, down\, wool or leather products! Urge b
usinesses to fake it. If you see real fur in a local store\, please let us
know. Post one-star reviews on their Facebook pages too\, asking them to
use humane alternatives.\n* Tell H&M to stop selling wool: https://invest
igations.peta.org/nativa-wool/#action \n* Call on Urban Outfitters to comm
it to only animal-free fashion across all its brands: https://headlines.p
eta.org/urban-outfitters/#action \n* Urge Coach to ditch animal leather:
	https://www.peta.org/action/action-alerts/coach-leather/ \n* Urge your sta
te legislators to support a ban on the sale of new fur! Unfortunately the
MA fur ban bill "died" this session\, but next session it will be refiled.

.org/en/fur-farming-cruelty-animal-welfare-risks \nLearn more about the cr
uelty and environmental impacts of the down\, wool\, leather industries he
	re - https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/fashion-clothing/animal-rights-anima
	l-welfare-clothing \nCows\, sheep\, rabbits\, birds\, and other animals ex
ploited for fashion are social\, inquisitive individuals who form meaningf
ul relationships and care for their families. These animals aren’t clothin
	g. They feel pain\, fear\, and joy\, just as humans do.\nThe fur industry
is dying\, but we must continue informing the public about the true face o
f the cruel fur trade\, especially on the busiest shopping day of the year
. Consumers must be aware of the millions of innocent fur-bearing animals
who live in torment on fur farms\, going mad in filthy tiny wire cages and
exposed to the elements or trapped in anguish until they die alone or are
brutally killed and at times even skinned alive.\nUsing animals for their
skin\, wool\, and feathers wreaks havoc on the planet\, too\, contributin
	g to land degradation\, deforestation\, pollution\, and biodiversity loss.
\nFur production creates pollution too. On fur factory farms\, waste runof
f from animals pollutes the soil and waterways. The tanning and dying proc
ess uses toxic chemicals\, like chromium and formaldehyde\, to prevent the
skin from decaying. Not surprisingly\, truth-in-advertising committees ac
ross Europe have ruled that advertising fur as environmentally friendly is
“false and misleading.” In 2018\, the French advertising authority conclu
ded\, “numerous reliable reports show that the production of fur is extrem
ely cruel and polluting\, and that the final product contains toxic substa
nces.”\nEach year\, approximately 50 million animals are raised in horrifi
c conditions on fur farms around the world\, which often have NO regulatio
ns\, and killed for their pelts. This number does not include over a billi
on rabbits that are also killed each year (70 million alone in France).\nB
ut the future of fashion is already here! More companies than ever are usi
ng innovative vegan fabrics made from plants and recycled materials that a
re kind to animals and far more sustainable. Research shows that cow-skin
leather has a carbon footprint more than 12 times that of any vegan leathe
r.\nThe global support and worldwide growing awareness about the true face
of the fur trade has brought about many important victories\, including r
ecent landmark decisions by Etsy\, New York Fashion Week organizers and th
e Emmy Award organizers to ban fur! \nThere have also been ground-breaking
anti-fur bills. In 2019 CA became the first state to ban the sale of new
fur products. And as of 2025\, six countries in the EU still engage in fur
farming\, while three of these have implemented legal bans on the practic
	e. Over the past two decades\, more than 30 countries have either voted to
ban fur farming or introduced stricter regulations.\nAlso\, India has pha
sed out fur skin imports and São Paulo\, Brazil has banned fur imports and
sales. In 2021\, Estonia passed a ban on fur farming and Israel banned th
e sale of fur in the fashion industry. In retail\, Massachusetts-based TJX
\, as well as numerous top brands and retailers—including Nordstrom\, Macy
	’s\, Bloomingdale’s\, Canada Goose\, Chanel\, Coach\, Neiman Marcus\, Burb
	erry\, Versace\, Donna Karan\, Gucci\, Michael Kors\, and Armani—have anno
unced fur-free policies.\nWe still have a long way to go with wool\, down
and leather\, so we must continue urging people to not buy real animal mat
erials and pushing for fur bans. As one of our signs says..."real women fa
ke it!"\nHope to see you there!\nFor the Animals\,\nSheryl
