Come develop your media literacy and learn to recognize what ads leave unsaid—and how they might embellish reality. A fter the counter-ad workshop\, you\, as a consumer\, won’t be so easily fo oled anymore!\nEach workshop begins with a 15-minute introduction explaini ng what a counter-ad is and what we’ll be doing during the session. If you can’t make it on time\, you’re welcome to join even if the workshop has a lready started. You don’t need any special crafting skills—it’s the messag e behind your work that matters most! We’ll use printed ads or ones cut ou t of magazines\, sticky notes\, glue\, and other office and craft supplies .\nWhat is a “counter-ad”? A counter-ad reveals something about the advert ised product that the advertiser wouldn’t tell you themselves. The worksho p encourages participants to reflect on how advertisements influence our l ives and guide our actions.\nThe workshops were developed in collaboration with Voima magazine and Jari Tamminen from Häiriköt Headquarters. The wor kshops are part of the “Katse eläimeen” (Focus on Animals) project\, a col laboration between Animalia\, the Youth Academy\, and Häiriköt Headquarter s aimed at strengthening young people’s media literacy. We decided to expa nd the audience for the counter-advertising workshops to include adults as well\, because advertisements deceive adult consumers just as much as the y do young people.\nIf you’d like to participate in the workshops in Engli sh\, please register by October 17 via email at tampere@animalia.fi. The p resentations will be in Finnish\, but you’ll receive English translations of the slides\, which you can follow along with\, as well as a few ads for the workshop.\nAccessibility information: Terassi Pub Yläkerta is located above the Vastavirta Club. You can get there by moving up a hill with a s lope of 13° at its steepest point. It is also possible to use the stairs. The staircase consists first of nine steps\, each approximately 85 cm deep and 10–20 cm high\, followed by eight steps\, each approximately 40–50 cm deep and 10–15 cm high. There is no handrail at the bottom of the stairs. \nThe bar is accessed via the terrace. You can drive right up to the front of the terrace. There is a 5-cm-high threshold when entering the terrace. \nIn front of the outside door\, there is a 3.5 cm high step grate and a t hreshold with a 13° slope. The doorway has a 2.5 cm high threshold. The ex terior door is 88 cm wide\, and beyond it is another doorway that is 80 cm wide and has no threshold.\nThe upstairs area has plenty of seating\, sev eral “booths” with backrest benches\, as well as tall bar stools.\nThere a re two restrooms upstairs along a 115 cm wide hallway.
