	s Zoo is not just an "animal holding facility\," as the zoo's genius commu
	nications director once described it\; it is also a botanical garden with 
	trees from various parts of the world throughout the zoo. One of the trees
	 is the acacia from Africa\, which happens to be a primary food source for
	 wild giraffes. But one place the tree is not present at the zoo is in the
	 giraffe enclosure\, where there are no plants of any type. According to B
	orn Free USA\, "Giraffes spend a large part of their day feeding on leaves
	 and stems of trees and shrubs\, and rumination is their dominant activity
	 at night. As such\, feeding is not just of nutritional importance to them
	 but also behaviourally significant."  As seen in the photo\, the giraffes
	' tiny space is lifeless and as barren as a small horse corral. \nAbout gi
	raffe roaming requirements in the wild\, Born Free USA has this to say: "G
	iraffes would naturally spend around a third of their day walking. Their n
	atural range has been calculated to be between 1\,326 and 127\,012 acres. 
	In contrast\, the average zoo enclosure for giraffes in US zoos is 1.2 acr
	es. The smallest giraffe enclosure in the country is just 0.17 acres and i
	s found at the Los Angeles Zoo."\nSo why is the LA Zoo holding giraffes so
	 clearly to their detriment? What could the zoo's local conservation effor
	ts have to do with a species on the other side of the world? Nothing. The 
	poor giraffes in the zoo are there because they sell tickets. \nJoin us at
