DESCRIPTION:Melbourne Animal Save (MAS) is holding a vigil for sheep and co
ws at Gathercole's Slaughterhouse in Carrum Downs.\nThis vigil will take p
lace on Sunday 19th April 2026.\nPLEASE NOTE: BY ATTENDING THIS EVENT YOU
ARE AGREEING TO ABIDE BY THE SAVE MOVEMENT'S CODE OF CONDUCT (AND REGAN'S
RULES) AT ALL TIMES AND MUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS GIVEN BY THE SAFETY MAR
SHALL. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A PERMANENT BAN FROM ALL SAVE EVENT
S.\nWhen we bear witness\, our aim is to bring love and compassionate ener
gy for the animals. Remaining calm\, courteous and peaceful is absolutely
vital. Whilst we understand that these events can be emotional\, anyone wh
o intentionally causes conflict\, aggression or disruption at a slaughterh
ouse vigil will not be invited back. \nAt a vigil\, we peacefully bear wit
ness to animals who are soon to be killed. We show them kindness\, and we
bring public awareness to their presence and suffering. Connecting with th
e living animals who are being exploited in our food system can have a pro
found effect on our attitude and choices towards these sentient beings\, w
ho are mostly hidden from public view. It allows us to see them as individ
uals\, not units of production.\nAll are welcome to join\, including those
who have never attended a vigil before. We believe that ending violence a
nd oppression must be done with love and kindness for all beings\, regardl
ess of sex\, race\, species\, and any other morally irrelevant factor. Mel
bourne Animal Save is a safe space for all.\nMAS is part of the global Ani
mal Save Movement\, and those taking part in a vigil must abide by the Ani
mal Save Movement Code of Conduct. A briefing will be held on the day\, bu
t attendees should familiarise themselves with the following:\nRespect to
Animals\n• Stay Calm: Animals are very sensitive to our energy. Approach t
rucks slowly\, calmly and quietly so as not to frighten animals more than
they are already.\n• Noise: Animals are extremely sensitive to noise and a
re already under a great deal of stress. Consider not speaking at all or\,
if you must\, speak in a soft and quiet tone.\n• Touching: Exercise discr
etion when engaging with and touching the animals\; don't scare them.\nSaf
ety\n• Wear reflective vests (these will be supplied) or light coloured cl
othing to be safer near the trucks.\n• Approach the truck when it's comple
tely stopped and safe to do so. Truck drivers often cannot see you.\n• Sta
y on the ground\, do not climb on the trucks.\n• Be aware of and listen to
the Safety Marshalls\, and look out for those around you.\nInteractions w
ith Truck Drivers and Plant Employees\n• Speak to drivers\, employees and
police with respect\, even if they do not. We are there to promote peace.\
n• Resist the temptation to react or respond in a negative manner to any p
rovocation from truck drivers or employees.\n• Oppose violence. Don’t figh
t violence with violence.\n• Stay peaceful and positive. Avoid temptation
to respond to negative comments with negative responses.\nThe Save Movemen
t is a safe and inclusive space for all attendees and we actively support
and encourage diversity within our community. If you ever have any concern
s regarding equality or inclusion\, please be sure to reach out to the vig
il organiser who will ensure you have additional support should it be requ
ired. \n\n\nBy attending this event\, you agree to abide by The Save Movem
ent's core values and code of conduct.\nIf you have not attended a vigil b
efore\, please watch this short safety guidelines video before attending.
